The Story Behind the Moose: From Glacier to Great Coffee

The Story Behind the Moose: From Glacier to Great Coffee

Most coffee brands pick a name. We picked a moment. The name Diving Moose Coffee comes from something real, and the rest of the brand grew from that same instinct: find what matters, hold onto it, and share it.

Where the name came from

A moose walking into a glacial lake and submerging itself to feed on underwater plants is one of those things you do not forget. Moose are strong, quiet, and completely at home in places most people never see. That image stuck, and when it came time to name a coffee company built around quality and conservation, nothing else came close.

The name was never meant to be quirky for its own sake. It points at something real: wild places, wild animals, and the idea that the things we do every day, like buying coffee, can either help protect those places or not. We chose to make it matter.

Coffee roasted in Georgia, sourced from the world

We roast in Georgia, in small batches, using 100% Arabica specialty grade beans. Our sourcing covers Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and more. Each origin has a distinct character, and we work to let that character come through in the cup rather than roast it out.

Every coffee in our lineup is named after an animal. The Nyala is a single-origin Ethiopia Sidamo organic with the kind of fruit-forward depth that the Sidamo region is known for. The Condor is a single-origin Colombia from the Sierra Nevada, certified organic, medium-light roasted to keep the brightness intact. These are not random choices. The nyala is an African antelope. The condor is one of the largest flying birds on earth. Both are worth knowing about.

The things we do every day can either help protect wild places or not. We chose to make it matter.

The animals on our bags

We did not put animals on our packaging to look good. Each one is a species with a real conservation story, and many of them are connected to the regions where the coffee grows. The whale shark swims in the same warm waters that border Indonesian and Pacific coffee-growing islands. The condor soars over South American mountains where our Colombian beans are farmed.

Our WWF partnership means a portion of every purchase goes directly toward conservation work. It is not a one-time donation or a limited campaign. It is part of how the business runs.

If you want to try several roasts at once, the 4-Count Most Popular Sample Pack is the easiest way to do it. Four different coffees, 4oz each, so you can find what you actually like before buying a full bag.

What we actually roast

Our lineup covers a wide range, from light and fruit-forward to dark and full-bodied. We have single-origin coffees, small-batch blends, decaf options, instant freeze-dried, and single-serve pods. The goal is not to cover every possible format for the sake of it. The goal is to make sure good coffee is accessible no matter how someone prefers to brew.

If you are new to specialty coffee, our most popular roasts are a good starting point. If you already know you like a specific origin or roast level, our single-origin collection gives you more to explore. And if you are working through a caffeine-free season, The Sloth is a decaf house blend that does not taste like a compromise.

Why small batch matters

Roasting in small batches means we can pay closer attention to each coffee. Temperature, time, and airflow all affect what ends up in your cup. A small batch gives us more control and more consistency than volume roasting does. It also means we are not holding large quantities of pre-roasted beans sitting in a warehouse somewhere.

All of our coffees are 100% Arabica and specialty grade. Specialty grade means the green beans scored 80 points or above on the Specialty Coffee Association's 100-point scale before we ever roast them.

Where to start

If you are new here, the 4-Count Most Popular Sample Pack is the most practical first step. It gets four different coffees into your hands so you can compare them side by side. From there, you will know exactly what direction to go. And with every order, a portion heads straight to wildlife conservation. That part happens automatically, no extra steps required.
